A revival of hymns

The purpose

Here's my take on hymns - they've gotten a bad rap in the last few decades. I think the appearance of powerful new praise and worship music on the scene is a great thing, but in the process we have started looking on hymns as being old, dead, and irrelevant. To do so cheapens the contributions of the many men and women of God who poured their life into these songs.

So this page is dedicated to the words of these hymns. We're going to dust off some songs to which we may not know the tunes, but the words speak volumes. Do you have any favorites? Drop me a line, and tell me the verse(s) or title. I'll do what I can to toss a verse or two up here.

The hymns

In no particular order, the hymns:

O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go

O Love that wilt not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in thee;
I give thee back the like I owe,
that in thine ocean depths its flow may richer fuller be.
George Matherson, 1882

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing

Come thou fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.

Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it,
mount of thy redeeming love.
Robert Robinson, 1758
